We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Payroll Lead to guide and shape the payroll function in our large, multifaceted firm. This role requires a visionary leader who can set the strategic direction, foster a positive team culture, and navigate complex firm structures.
What will your typical day look like?
Working closely with HR, Finance, Tax, Legal, and Technology, this role integrates payroll considerations into enterprise initiatives and serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on payroll risk, workforce impacts, and regulatory change. It also provides strategic payroll analytics and executive reporting, leveraging data insights to inform decision-making, manage risk, and support workforce and financial outcomes.
You will bring deep expertise in legislative and regulatory requirements as you partner closely with the Employee Relations team on employment obligations and embedding strong governance and risk controls.
The position will also lead transformation across systems, processes, and structure, championing innovation while overseeing payroll technology to ensure integrity, security, scalability, and continuous enhancement.

The Payroll team is a diverse and collaborative group based in our Parramatta office, committed to delivering accurate, compliant and efficient payroll outcomes for all our people.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you.
You may have all or some of the following skills / experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
- Advanced certifications in payroll or HR (e.g., CPP, FPC, or equivalent) preferred
- 15+ years of payroll experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Experience working within large, global organisations is highly desirable
- Strong, influential leadership style with the capacity to engage stakeholders at all organisational levels
- Deep expertise in payroll operations, tax regulation, legislative compliance, and multi-jurisdictional risk management
- Highly effective cross-functional collaborator, with exceptional communication skills in order to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong understanding of payroll systems and ERP platforms, including SuccessFactors (EC, ECP), with the ability to assess and oversee technology enhancements
- Experienced in identifying and mitigating payroll-related risks, including compliance, data privacy, and cybersecurity exposures
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capability, translating complex data into actionable strategy
- Demonstrated success leading transformation initiatives and positively shaping organisational culture
