What will your typical day look like?
As part of the National Finance Payroll team, and reporting into the Head of Payroll, you will oversee and enhance our payroll compliance framework, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and Deloitte standards across all payroll systems and processes. You will lead a team of three specialists who will support you in this task. You will be part of the wider Payroll team of approximately 20 people.
Your expertise will be key in maintaining end-to-end payroll compliance and pay accuracy as you coach & develop your team to ensure that payroll systems are configured, and processes are designed for optimal compliance. Day to day, your responsibilities will include:
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax withholdings, wage and hour laws, employee benefits and BAS reconciliations between single touch payroll, general ledger postings and payroll reporting.
- Continuous improvement: Stay current with changes in payroll regulations and best practices. Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
- Audits and reporting: Conduct regular payroll audits to identify and resolve discrepancies. Prepare and present detailed compliance reports to management.
- Issue resolution: Address and resolve any payroll compliance issues or employee concerns promptly and effectively. You will engage with Talent and Employee Relations. You will have the resources of Deloitte’s employment tax advisory specialists to assist you when necessary.
- Policy development: Develop, implement, and update payroll policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulations and industry best practices.
- Training and support: Provide training and guidance to payroll staff and other departments on compliance-related matters. Serve as a point of contact for payroll compliance inquiries.
- General ledger: You will work with Group Accounts to ensure that general ledger accounts agree with payroll postings, and that provisions are correctly calculated.
- Documentation and record-Keeping: Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of payroll records, compliance-related documentation, and correspondence with regulatory agencies.
About the team
Meet the National Finance team - a multidisciplinary team of accounting and technical experts that essentially keep the company running. From treasury support to payroll services, the National Finance team provides support for firm-wide administrative and accounting functions. The Payroll team is an important part of National Finance. This diverse group of specialists is based in our Western Sydney office at Parramatta.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you.
You are someone with:
- 10+ years experience in end-to-end payroll management within medium to large organisations, with significant experience in leadership roles. You will have run payroll compliance functions before.
- Experience working in a high-volume payroll environment with more than 10,000 employees.
- An excellent and up to date understanding of all legislation and regulatory reporting that applies in respect to Fair Work, taxation, FBT, single touch payroll and WGEA.
- A proven track record in developing, implementing, and monitoring payroll compliance frameworks, driving business improvement, and providing innovative solutions to complex challenges.
- The ability to work across teams with colleagues in Talent, Employee Relations, and Deloitte’s specialist employment tax advisers.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport within and between teams. The ability to inspire confidence by demonstrating competence in your specialist area.
- Excellent verbal and written skills, with superior attention to detail and accuracy.
