The question of ‘Value’ consistently underpins the decision-making process of boards, management, investors and other stakeholders. Our specialist Valuations team provides value related advice, assisting clients in managing value throughout the business cycle in circumstances relating to M&A transactions, financial reporting, tax, litigation and management strategies. 

 

M&A is one of the major aspects of the corporate finance world. At M&A – Fixed Asset Valuations (Plant & Equipment) we help clients with asset intensive businesses value their plant and infrastructure for financial reporting, stamp duty, tax and strategic management purposes. One of the most exciting parts of the valuation of infrastructure assets is undertaking site visits to understand the business operations, condition assessments and discussions with engineers. Our team has inspected assets across the APAC region, Europe, the Americas and Africa in the recent past.

 

Examples of our Work 

•    We assisted a telecom client in undertaking a valuation of their plant and infrastructure to meet their statutory requirements for Tax and accounting in Australia. Our work involved the valuation of assets located across all States & Territories and involved asset inspections and secondary market research.
•    We assisted a government client in the valuation of their plant and infrastructure across multiple portfolios including roads, bridges, tunnels and maritime infrastructure.
•    We assisted one of Asia-Pacific’s largest logistics business with a valuation of their assets across the entire APAC region. Tangible asset types included infrastructure and a diverse mobile fleet consisting of light & heavy vehicles, rail rolling stock and aircraft. 
•    We assisted a number of mining clients with the valuation of their infrastructure which include processing plants, mining fleet and supporting infrastructure across Australia and overseas.
•    We have valued strategic infrastructure assets including manufacturing plants, airports, marine infrastructure, iconic bridges, rail networks and power plants.

 

What will your typical day look like?

The role involves a mixture of site inspections and on desk valuation modelling, market analysis, research and reporting. A typical engagement will require elements such as asset inspections, data analysis, interactions with operations, engineering, and finance teams, development of replacement costs, useful life analysis, secondary market research and report writing. 
 
This role will challenge you on:
•    Exposure to a large cross section of industries and understanding appropriate valuation drivers to value the underlying assets
•    Performing asset valuations for mergers & acquisitions, financial reporting, purchase price accounting, impairment testing, taxation, insurance. 
•    Performing physical inspections of plant and infrastructure both within Australia and internationally
•    Developing valuation models and contribute to meetings with client management and on site personnel.
•    Selecting the appropriate methods of valuation, and submitting written assessments
•    Your ability to manage and analyse multiple valuation projects
•    Using analytics tools for services such as fixed asset data analysis, reconciliations and asset register rebuilds
•    Assisting team leaders in business development and marketing activities such as preparation of pitch decks and proposals.

 

Enough about us, let’s talk about you. 

You will have all or some of the following skills / experience: 
•    Senior Consultant Role: 
o    A minimum 3 years of experience in a financial or advisory environment as well as previous fixed asset valuation experience. 
o    Membership or eligibility for professional bodies such as the American Society of Appraisers, Australian Property Institute, or Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and relevant certifications preferred.
•    Consultant Role: 
o    1-2 years of experience in a financial or advisory environment. Previous valuation experience preferred.

•    Australian permanent residency or Australian/New Zealand Citizenship 
•    Degrees in either: Engineering, Finance, Property, Business, Commerce, Economics, Accounting
•    Strong MS Office skills (including Excel, PowerPoint and Word) with a particular focus on analytics and data visualisation tools
•    Competency in, and a keen interest in further developing, complex valuations/modelling or data analysis 
•    Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
