Fixed Asset Valuations - Manager


The question of ‘Value’ consistently underpins the decision-making process of Boards, management, investors and other stakeholders. Our specialist Valuations team provides value related advice, assisting clients in managing value throughout the business cycle in circumstances relating to M&A transactions, financial reporting, tax, litigation and management decision -making.


 Examples of our Work


  • We supported one of our global industrial products clients in undertaking a valuation of their fixed assets to meet their statutory requirements for Tax and accounting in Australia. Our work involved the valuation of assets across all States & Territories and involved asset inspections and secondary market research.
  • We assisted one Asia-Pacific’s largest logistics business with a valuation of their assets across the entire APAC region. Tangible asset types included infrastructure and a diverse mobile fleet consisting of light & heavy vehicles, rail rolling stock and aircraft.
  • We supported a private equity firm understand the tax consequences of the investment strategy they were proposing to execute in respect of a $1b+ acquisition they had undertaken in the business services sector. Our analysis involved understanding the various constituent (tangible and intangible) assets and operations of the multi-national group


What will your typical day look like?


The role involves a mixture of site inspections and on desk valuation modelling, market analysis, research and reporting. A typical engagement will require elements such as asset inspections, data analysis, interactions with operations, engineering, and finance teams, development of replacement costs, useful life analysis, secondary market research and report writing.


This role will challenge you on:


  • Quantifying and articulating value for taxation, transaction, mergers and acquisitions, financing, litigation, financial reporting impairment testing and insurance valuations
  • Providing independent valuation advice to clients on valuation issues
  • Developing valuation models for fixed assets based on applying valuation methodologies (market, cost and income approaches)
  • Calculating values by considering secondary market demand, asset condition, future trends and other factors
  • Inspecting assets, selecting methods of valuation, and submitting written assessments
  • Getting exposure to a large cross section of industries and developing appropriate valuation drivers to value the underlying assets
  • Your ability to manage and analyse multiple valuation projects
  • Providing fixed asset register analysis, asset register reconciliations and asset register rebuilds
  • Preparation of valuation reports and proposals

Our preferred candidate is a natural collaborator who is able to think unconventionally, apply commercial thinking and challenge the status quo in designing solutions to real and technical problems. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:


  • 5+ years of experience in a financial, engineering or advisory environment - this is provided as a guide only; please don’t let it limit you if you think you’ve got something to add to our team
  • Previous fixed asset valuation experience preferred 
  • Ideally Bachelor or Master’s degree in property, engineering, finance, economics, mathematics or data science, with an interest in undertaking a relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. CA, CFA, MBA or master’s in finance)
  • Strong MS Office skills (including Excel, PowerPoint and Word) with a particular focus on Excel and data visualisation
  • Competency in, and a keen interest in further developing, complex valuations/modelling or data analysis
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to develop enthusiasm and commitment from team members and share knowledge
