We are looking for a seasoned Senior Network Engineer to join our expanding Secure Network Infrastructure team. In this critical position, you will play an integral role in the design, integration, operation, and support of secure network technologies across our data centres, campuses, and hybrid cloud environments.
About the Team
The ITS Secured Networks team is dedicated to overseeing and sustaining the organisations network and security operations. They prioritise effective management of ServiceNow call queues to consistently meet service levels. Committed to the efficient functioning of network and security systems, the team expertly handles incidents, problems, and changes, ensuring high-quality execution. They maintain strong vendor communication for upgrades, maintenance, and support, and diligently monitor performance and stability using appropriate tools.
What will your typical day look like?
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in enterprise IT environments, with a comprehensive understanding of both traditional and cloud-based network components. As a member of a larger infrastructure team, the successful applicant will collaborate with various infrastructure groups, internal stakeholders, and external partners to ensure the delivery of reliable, high-performing, and secure network services.
Key responsibilities will include the management of both traditional and cloud-based network components, the support of essential business operations, and the contribution to the strategic development of our network vision as the team continues to evolve.
Key Responsibilities
Hybrid Cloud & Data Centre Networking
- Design and implement secure connectivity solutions between on-premises data centres and cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Build resilient cloud network architectures including VPC peering, VPN/ExpressRoute, transit gateways, and route propagation.
- Implement cloud-native security controls (NSGs, firewalls, service endpoints) to ensure end-to-end protection.
- VMware NSX experience is a strong plus.
Advanced Troubleshooting & Infrastructure Support
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex network, firewall, routing, switching, wireless, and connectivity issues.
- Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, routing anomalies, and Layer 2/3 networking challenges.
- Provide cross-domain support encompassing virtualization, storage, and identity components as needed.
- Conduct comprehensive firewall policy audits and security assessments.
Network Security Architecture & Design
- Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to design secure, scalable network solutions for enterprise clients.
- Implement and maintain secure network environments spanning data centres, branch offices, and cloud platforms.
- Define and enforce network security policies, including segmentation, firewall zoning, and secure remote access aligned with industry standards (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS, ASD).
Client Engagement & Strategic Consulting
- Lead technical workshops, discovery sessions, and architecture reviews with enterprise clients.
- Translate client security and infrastructure needs into actionable, pragmatic design and execution plans.
- Support client transformation initiatives including modernization projects, cloud migrations, and security remediations.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering technical growth within the team.
Firewall & Perimeter Security Management
- Analyse firewall logs and configurations (Palo Alto, Check Point, Cisco ASA) to identify and remediate security issues.
- Configure and manage VPN solutions (site-to-site and remote access) with technologies like Palo Alto and Aruba HPE.
- Monitor proxy platforms and secure web gateways such as Zscaler, Netskope, and Palo Alto.

You are someone who has experience with:
Required:
- University degree in the field of computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent certifications/experience).
- 10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience with a strong focus on network security.
- Expert-level knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, EVPN, OSPF) and policy enforcement.
- Deep expertise in data centre and hybrid cloud networking, with public cloud connectivity and security experience.
- Proficient with firewalls, VPNs, proxies, NAC solutions (Cisco ISE), and intrusion prevention systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across integrated network, virtualization, and infrastructure platforms.
- Knowledge of modern security frameworks such as SD-WAN, Zero Trust, SASE, and micro-segmentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident engaging both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrate proficiency working with external vendors and strategic partners.
