Infrastructure and Industrial capacity forms the backbone of our economy. Deloitte’s Infrastructure & Industrials (I&I) team works closely with private and public sector clients to generate value through investments in infrastructure and the establishment of complex services contracts.
Whether we are shaping investment strategies, developing business cases, advising on commercial structures, applying structured decision making, or developing financing models, out team supports clients to make confident, high impact investment decisions. You will have the opportunity to work with governments and major private industrial clients as they prioritise, plan and shape the assets and services that nourish, protect and sustain our nation.

Then a role in our Melbourne and Sydney-based Infrastructure & Industrials (I&I) Commercial & Strategy (C&S) team could be for you.
What will your typical day look like?
Expect to work closely as a trusted advisor to Government departments and major industrial companies, and help address ‘big-ticket’ issues related to social and economic infrastructure and complex services.
On a day-to-day basis, you might find yourself:
- Collaborating with government and its stakeholders to shape the next generation of major asset and services investments
- Developing and delivering independent reviews, options analysis, business cases and strategy development for complex projects and programs. This includes developing executive briefs and clear written and visual communication that translates complex analysis into compelling narratives for senior decision makers
- Delivering hands on commercial and financial analysis for major projects and programs, including designing commercial frameworks, running financial analysis and determining overall budget envelopes, developing market engagement strategies, and working in multi disciplinary teams. You will contribute to large-scale tender processes and negotiations that secure value for money and strong public outcomes across sectors
- Scoping and leading the problem solving, investigations and modelling to inform infrastructure planning, such as analysing portfolio performance, or evaluating the social, economic and environmental impacts of different investment options
- Preparing high quality reports, presentations and client deliverables, while managing day to day client interactions
- Contributing to the growth of the business through identifying opportunities, supporting business development and preparing thoughtful and compelling proposals. You will work with experienced senior team members who provide guidance and oversight while being encouraged to take ownership and lead components of project delivery.

You will have:
- An interest in public sector and the economic, financial and social drivers of government investment, decision-making and policy and/or in major industrial activities in the energy, utilities, transport, defence industry sectors.
- A strong desire to make an impact that matters through the work that you do.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, including the ability to prepare a range of different documents, and write in different styles for different purposes and audiences (e.g. technical reports, briefings to executive decision makers, succinct summaries of complex issues, visual materials to support stakeholder engagement activities with a variety of audiences).
- A positive, collaborative and problem-solving approach.
- A desire to learn and grow.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Commerce, Finance, Economics, Law, or Engineering).
- A passion to make an impact on your community, the State and the National economy.
You may also have the following, although these are not essential:
- 6 years’ relevant experience, which may be in provision of professional services, infrastructure advisory, commercial functions of infrastructure and associated services, the public sector, financial modelling, contract design and development.
- Experience in the infrastructure and industrial and logistics companies (energy, defence industry, property, transport and logistics, etc), transport service providers and energy companies.
- Strong quantitative analysis skills including financial analysis.
- An understanding of the workings of government, of investment planning and decision making. With an ability to apply this understanding across sectors and investment lifecycle stages.
- You may even be an engineer, lawyer or policy strategist looking for a change in direction, we have lots of those.
