We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer with a focus on the Azure platform, to lead our data engineering initiatives. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure Databricks, DBT, and Azure Data Factory. Familiarity with Azure Fabric is advantageous. You will play a pivotal role in advancing our data engineering practice, mentoring engineers, and driving innovation within the team.
What will your typical day look like?
- Lead Development Initiatives: Design, develop, and implement complex data pipelines using Azure Databricks, DBT, and Azure Data Factory to support business needs and enhance data processing capabilities.
- Mentorship: Guide and mentor data engineers, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth. Provide technical leadership and best practices for data engineering.
- Practice Maturity: Drive the development and maturity of the data engineering practice by implementing industry best practices, enhancing existing processes, and introducing innovative solutions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and integration of data solutions with business objectives.
- Azure Fabric Exploration: If applicable, explore and incorporate Azure Fabric features to optimize data solutions, contributing to the overall architectural strategy.
- Documentation and Standards: Develop comprehensive documentation and maintain standards for data engineering processes, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
About the team
The Information Technology Services (ITS) team is seeking to fill a position for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to join Enterprise Application Services (EAS). The ITS EAS team is responsible for implementing, supporting, and delivering on a wide range of technology and applications for our internal Deloitte clients and also serve external clients.

You are someone with:
- Technical Expertise: Minimum of 5 years of experience in data engineering with a strong focus on the Azure ecosystem. Proficient in Azure Databricks, DBT, and Azure Data Factory.
- Azure Knowledge: Solid understanding of Azure services, including storage options, compute, networking, and security features.
- Programming and Scripting: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and familiarity with SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
- Data Modelling and ETL: Experience in designing data models, developing ETL processes, and optimising data workflows for performance and scalability.
- Azure Fabric (Plus): Experience or knowledge of Azure Fabric is considered a plus, enhancing your ability to integrate new technologies into existing frameworks.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications in data engineering or Azure technologies preferred.
