As Head of Development & Growth, you will lead Deloitte Australia’s enterprise approach to development, setting the strategy for skills, careers and learning across our 11,000+ workforce, from graduates through to Partners. You will define the capabilities we need for a changing, AI-enabled world and ensure we build them in practical ways, designing and embedding differentiated development experiences that lift performance, strengthen technical and leadership capability, and drive real impact across the business.
What will your typical day look like?
You will set the priorities for development across the firm and translate these into clear pathways, experiences and programs that build both technical capability and core leadership skills. This includes shaping development from graduates through to Partners, ensuring we have differentiated experiences for key cohorts and critical career transitions.
A core part of the role is turning strategy into execution. You will oversee a portfolio of development initiatives – including leadership programs, capability academies and partner development – ensuring they are practical, relevant and embedded in the flow of work. You will also define how we use technology and AI to scale learning, improve access and personalise development across the firm.
You own the strategy. You'll shape how the firm approaches learning, capability and career growth across the whole lifecycle, using deep insight and judgement to turn workforce priorities into investment decisions that connect directly to business performance. You'll advise the Executive on progress, risks and where to place bets, and back every recommendation with data and commercial nous.
The transformation agenda is substantial. That means redesigning how people grow at Deloitte, moving to integrated, experience-led approaches, and weaving digital and AI fluency into everyday work. It also means shifting mindsets, operating models and ways of working across a matrixed organisation.
You won't do any of this alone. You'll report to the Chief People and Purpose Officer, work closely with the Chief Talent Officer, leaders across every business unit, and your own multidisciplinary team, creating clarity and lifting the group's ability to operate as strategic advisors rather than program managers.

People and Purpose is Deloitte Australia's enterprise people function, responsible for the strategies, experiences and infrastructure that enable the firm's people to thrive. The Development and Growth team sits within this function and is accountable for learning, capability, career pathways and skills development across every level of the firm.
This is a team being reshaped to meet a pivotal moment - where AI is changing the nature of work, careers are evolving, and the firm's growth depends on building distinctive capability at pace.
Enough about us, let's talk about you
You may have all or some of the following skills/experiences:
- Senior leadership experience in development, talent or workforce transformation, ideally within professional services or similarly complex, matrixed environments
- A proven track record of shaping and executing enterprise-wide capability and development strategy that connects to measurable business outcomes
- Experience leading large-scale transformation and leading through ambiguity - shifting operating models, ways of working and organisational mindsets
- Demonstrated digital and AI fluency, including experience applying emerging technologies into development strategies to drive relevance, personalisation and scale
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, developing senior leaders, and building a high-performing function with strong strategic and operational impact
- Confidence using data, evidence and insight to assess priorities, make sound decisions and guide investment in a complex environment
- Strong commercial acumen, with the instinct to link development investment to growth, productivity and retention
- Experience designing career frameworks and pathways at scale across multiple career stages
- Executive-level stakeholder management, collaboration and influencing capability - you know how to build alignment across competing priorities
- An external perspective on leading practice in skills, development and the future of careers with the insights and judgement to translate that into actionable strategy
