Energy and Climate Advisory – Senior Consultant

Join Deloitte’s Energy and Climate Advisory (ECA) Team

This is your opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team at the forefront of Australia's energy transition. Our ECA practice partners with clients across the energy landscape including developers, corporate and government clients, renewable technology firms, and more to address critical challenges in the shift toward a decarbonised future. As a Senior Consultant, you will leverage deep knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and strong financial modelling capabilities to deliver innovative commercial advisory, investment analysis, and project development support, helping shape the future of energy in Australia.

About the Team

Our ECA team delivers strategic and commercial advice across the energy and climate spectrum. We assist clients with:

  • Decarbonisation strategies and roadmaps
  • Renewable energy project development (greenfield and brownfield)
  • Financial modelling, project finance, and investment analysis
  • Market entry and commercialisation strategies
  • Mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and accessing public/private funding sources

We frequently collaborate with other Deloitte capabilities—such as strategy, due diligence and M&A — to deliver comprehensive solutions that exceed client expectations.

What will your typical day look like?

As a Senior Consultant, you will:

  • Support Engagements: Contribute to the delivery of complex energy and climate advisory projects, ensuring high-quality outputs and alignment with project objectives.
  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients to understand their challenges, providing analytical support and contributing to actionable recommendations.
  • Analytical Excellence: Build and refine financial models, conduct investment analyses, and develop commercial frameworks, including optimising capital structures and evaluating market opportunities.
  • Team Contribution: Collaborate with team members, supporting senior staff in project delivery and mentoring junior analysts to foster a positive team environment.
  • Market Research: Stay informed on energy market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging opportunities to support project delivery and business development.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Conduct detailed financial, technical, and commercial analyses to support project delivery.
  • Assist in preparing high-quality deliverables, including reports, presentations, and financial models, that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Engage with clients, Managers, Directors, and Partners to support transaction elements, capital structuring, and energy market analysis.
  • Contribute to business development activities, such as preparing proposals and supporting client workshops.
  • Build your expertise in energy markets, positioning yourself for future leadership roles within the firm.

Enough about us, let's talk about you

You demonstrate:

  • Analytical Skills: Strong structured thinking and attention to detail, with demonstrated experience in financial, technical, or commercial analysis within the energy sector.
  • NEM Market Knowledge: Sound understanding of the National Electricity Market, including market dynamics, dispatch and pricing mechanisms, contract structures (PPAs, firming, and hedging arrangements), and the evolving regulatory landscape under bodies such as the AER and AEMC. Exposure to NEM revenue modelling, merchant risk assessment, or energy market forecasting is highly valued.
  • Financial Modelling Expertise: Proven experience building and maintaining detailed project finance models, ideally in renewable energy or infrastructure contexts. This includes constructing integrated financial statements, debt sculpting, returns analysis (equity IRR, DSCR, LLCR), and sensitivity/scenario testing. Familiarity with capital structuring, investment-grade credit metrics, and financial due diligence in a Big 4 or specialist energy advisory environment is advantageous.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex financial and market analysis into clear, concise recommendations for clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: A proactive approach to tackling challenges and delivering innovative, commercially grounded solutions.
