  • Help shape the reliability, security and performance of critical SQL Server environments across on-prem and cloud platforms
  • Thrive in an innovative, collaborative people culture
  • Build relationships with in-person connection across our teams and clients, with flexibility to balance work and life

Join Deloitte as a Database Administrator in Sydney, with hybrid working, where you’ll take hands-on ownership of stable, secure and high-performing data platforms while helping reduce risk and strengthen operational resilience.

What will your typical day look like?

This role is centred on administering and optimising database environments across development, test and production. That could mean monitoring health, capacity and performance, tuning queries and indexes, or identifying bottlenecks and recommending improvements. You’ll also manage core controls like access, permissions, encryption, backups and restore validation, with an eye on high availability and disaster recovery readiness.

When issues arise, you’ll work across incident triage, restoration, root cause analysis and change management to resolve problems and prevent them from happening again. The work matters because it directly improves reliability, security and business outcomes, while keeping compliance evidence clear, accurate and audit ready.

You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, application teams, service management, and data and platform teams across Azure and AWS environments. It’s a role for someone who enjoys hands-on problem solving, structured operational ownership, and continuously improving the way platforms are run.

About the team

The DBA team are an internal ITS team within the Enterprise Application Services (EAS) team. They work closely with data engineers, developers, analysts, 3rd level support, infrastructure, project teams and business stakeholders.

You’ll be part of a team focused on keeping Deloitte’s data platforms stable, secure, compliant and performant. Their work spans production support, operational improvement, cloud platform monitoring, risk and control uplift, and partnering with technical teams to improve supportability and reduce operational risk over time.

Enough about us, let's talk about you

You may have all or some of the following skills/experiences:

  • 4+ years’ hands-on database administration experience, with strong SQL Server capability across administration, performance tuning, backups/restores, security and production troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting database environments across development, test and production, with strong monitoring, optimisation and reliability practices
  • Strong diagnostic skills, with the ability to isolate issues across application, database, infrastructure and network layers
  • A practical understanding of ITSM disciplines like incident, problem and change management, ideally in regulated environments
  • A security and compliance mindset, including access governance, audit trails, documentation and evidence-ready operational records
  • Clear communication, sound judgement under pressure, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Experience with Azure SQL, AWS RDS, PostgreSQL, SQL coding or PowerShell scripting would be highly regarded
  • Exposure to Databricks or Azure Data Factory (ADF) would be a bonus
