Deloitte Technology is seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team in Sydney. This is a permanent role where you’ll play a key part in designing, implementing, and optimising scalable data pipelines and workflows that power Deloitte’s data-driven initiatives. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with EDW pod leads and the Senior Data Engineering Manager, contributing to high-impact projects across the business.

 

What will your typical day look like?

Day to day you will:

  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using Databricks and Azure Data Factory.

  • Transform raw data into actionable insights using Data Build Tools (DBT) and Python.

  • Build and maintain data integrations across systems using APIs.

  • Monitor and optimise workflows for performance and cost-efficiency.

  • Lead project delivery pods, mentor junior team members, and conduct code reviews.

  • Collaborate with data modelers, analysts, DBAs, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

  • Document processes, workflows, and system architecture to maintain clarity and knowledge sharing.

 

About the team

Deloitte Technology’s EDW team powers enterprise-wide data initiatives, enabling business users to make informed, data-driven decisions. You’ll join a collaborative and high-performing team working in an agile environment, tackling complex data challenges and continuously improving the EDW platform.

 

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

You may have all or some of the following skills / experiences:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with expertise in Databricks, SQL, Python, Azure Data Factory, and DBT.

  • Experience designing, building, and optimising data pipelines and workflows.

  • Hands-on experience with API-based data integrations and version control systems (Azure DevOps, GitHub).

  • Strong understanding of data architecture patterns and cloud data storage solutions.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and adaptability.

  • Collaborative mindset with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees or relevant certifications in Azure or Databricks are a plus.

  • Desirable: Knowledge of Azure Fabric and emerging data engineering technologies.
