About the Opportunity
You will be joining a team of passionate and innovative people to lead policy design, analysis, implementation, and evaluation to support our clients realise opportunity and manage risks associated with the transition to a net zero future. Our advice applies a variety of analytical frameworks, models and techniques informed by contemporary policy settings, economic theories, and market experience.
You can expect to:
- Lead and manage small project teams (2-3 people) delivering strategic advice to boards, senior executives and policymakers on complex net zero transition challenges
- Work closely with industry clients to understand their business needs and develop strategic responses to climate-related transition risks
- Design, evaluate and model industrial policy settings to balance public value and market outcomes
- Manage project delivery from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality outputs and client satisfaction
- Communicate and present policy & strategy analysis and recommendations to senior stakeholders, deepening client relationships and industry knowledge
- Contribute to business development activities and thought leadership publications
- Be part of a growing national team delivering projects within a fast-changing sector of increasing prominence
The successful applicant will ideally be based in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne. Exceptional applicants based in other locations will also be considered.
About the Team
The Deloitte Energy and Climate Advisory team works with businesses, governments, regulators and market institutions to help them navigate uncertainty and realise opportunities as the energy and climate landscape is disrupted by new policies, technologies and business models.
Our team includes engineers, economists, government and regulatory specialists, commercial and business advisers, and modellers who work collaboratively across all components of the energy and climate landscape. We aim to help our clients understand the environment they operate within and identify the actions they could take for better outcomes for their business and their customers.
Some examples of projects successfully delivered include:
- Helping governments design key energy and climate policies, including renewable energy targets and industrial decarbonisation strategies
- Advising corporations on their decarbonisation strategies and climate risk management frameworks
- Detailed market & policies studies for net zero opportunities like low carbon liquid fuels and renewable hydrogen
- Undertaking opportunity assessments for the future of key Australian manufacturing industries like solar and green metals
Enough about us, let's talk about you.
Successful applicants will have:
- 4-8 years of relevant experience in public policy, strategy consulting, or economic advisory roles with strong knowledge of government institutions, systems and processes
- Project and team management experience, including leading small teams and managing multiple concurrent projects
- Strategic problem-solving capabilities with experience in structured analytical approaches to complex policy and business challenges
- Quantitative analysis skills, ideally including Excel-based financial and policy modelling capabilities
- Climate risk expertise with experience developing strategic responses to transition risks, and familiarity with climate risk frameworks (TCFD, APRA guidance, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills, with experience preparing strategic recommendations, policy briefings, and presenting to senior executives and government officials
- Collaborative mindset with a determination to succeed and deliver innovative solutions to complex problems
- The ability to learn quickly and deliver reliably to a high standard in fast-paced environments
Experience in energy and climate policy is highly valued but not essential for exceptional candidates.
