What will your typical day look like?  

As an Associate Director, you will lead the delivery of client engagements and play a central role in the continued growth of our practice. You will be the day-to-day leader our clients rely on, from bringing deep industry knowledge, structured delivery capability and sound judgement to complex investment management initiatives.

 

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Lead engagements and major workstreams across operating model design, IM platform selection and implementation, custodian and service provider sourcing, evaluation and transition, investment data management initiatives, system transitions and the development of innovative technology solutions for investment managers and superannuation funds, including those with diverse asset classes spanning private markets and alternatives.
  • Manage delivery end-to-end, including planning, mobilising and leading project teams, directing structured business and data analysis, managing scope, risks, dependencies and stakeholders, and taking ownership of the quality of client deliverables.
  • Work side-by-side with client investment, operations, data and technology teams, translating between business and technology to deliver outcomes spanning areas such as portfolio management and modelling systems, investment data, ESG and index requirements, unit pricing, performance and attribution, instrument execution and monitoring frameworks, and large operational transitions.
  • Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders, identifying opportunities to extend our support and contributing to proposals, bids and the development of new propositions.
  • Coach and develop Managers, Senior Consultants and Consultants, providing on-the-job mentoring and supporting their growth.
  • Contribute to practice development, including methodologies, accelerators, thought leadership and recruitment, and stay at the forefront of industry and technology developments.

 

About the team

Deloitte’s Investment Management Technology team is part of the Monitor Deloitte business in Australia.  The team is recognised for providing clients with a full range of advisory and implementation services across IM technology strategy, operating model design and implementation, platform selection and implementation, investment data management and analytics solutions, and importantly, continuing to embed innovation by design in all our work.  We are growing and this has created opportunities within our team.

 

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.  

You are an accomplished investment management professional with a balanced business and technology background, and you will bring:

  • Typically 10+ years of experience in the investment management or superannuation industry, gained within asset managers, asset owners, custodians, consulting firms or service providers.
  • Deep, practical knowledge of the investment management lifecycle, spanning front, middle and/or back office functions, and the data, systems and operational processes that support them.
  • Proven experience leading the delivery of complex projects and transformations, such as platform implementations, system and provider transitions, investment data initiatives, new asset class or product onboarding, or operating model change.
  • Strong understanding of financial and investment data, with experience working across investment platforms (e.g. order management, portfolio management, performance, risk and data management systems); willingness to train and be certified on platforms used by our clients.
  • A consulting mindset, including excellent analytical, problem-solving and structuring skills, and the ability to engage credibly with senior client stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership of teams, with a collaborative, inclusive style and a genuine interest in coaching and developing others.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including managing engagement budgets, timelines and risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing and presenting high quality reports and recommendations to senior audiences.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to work across multiple disciplines and client environments as needed.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, economics, technology or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications (e.g. MBA, CFA, CAIA, Masters in Applied Finance) and project delivery certifications (e.g. PMP, Agile) are highly regarded.
