About the Opportunity 

 

You will be joining a passionate and talented team shaping and delivering solutions to the toughest energy and climate challenges our clients face. In this role you will be at the forefront supporting our public sector clients develop policy solutions for a market undergoing unprecedented disruption and reform. And you will assist our largest businesses across the energy, resources and industrial sectors make informed business and investment decisions to capture the opportunities in the changing environment.

In this role you will contribute to a variety of complex and impactful client engagements. In particular you can expect to:

  • Work closely with clients to gain an understanding of their specific requirements
  • Conduct robust analysis and develop innovative solutions for a range of energy industry and climate challenges
  • Provide leadership to a team of talented professionals, supporting them develop consulting skills and grow their industry and sector knowledge
  • Use strong communication skills to present outcomes and recommendations to senior clients 
  • Be part of a growing national team delivering projects within a fast-changing sector.

 

About the Team

 

The Deloitte Energy and Climate Advisory team is a diverse group including engineers, economists, government and regulatory specialists, commercial and business advisers, and modellers who work collaboratively across all components of the energy and climate landscape. We work with businesses, governments, regulators and market institutions to help them navigate uncertainty and realise opportunities as the energy and climate landscape is transformed by new policies, technologies, decarbonisation goals and business models.

 

Our team prides itself on assisting clients through analytical rigour and strong industry knowledge. We employ a number of bespoke and market leading modelling tools to support our clients make informed business decisions.  

 

Some examples of how we have helped our clients understand the environment they operate within and identify the actions they could take to achieve better outcomes include:

 

  • Assessing the potential size of the global hydrogen market and the share of demand that Australia could capture to underpin the National Hydrogen Strategy
  • Supporting the Western Australian government to model the potential future Pilbara energy network as the region looks to decarbonise and develop the transmission and renewable generation that is required
  • Working with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to develop Australia’s first Bioenergy Roadmap , identifying areas of the economy where bioenergy has a key role to play in decarbonisation and modelling the impact of cost on demand
  • Modelling the National Electricity Market and the Wholesale Electricity Market in a wide range of future scenarios to inform of risks and opportunities
  • Supporting the financial and commercial feasibility of some of the largest green hydrogen projects globally
  • Identifying, through rigorous analysis, the commercial and technical pathways for transitioning the hard to abate sectors of our economy including the mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, construction and chemicals sectors
  • Working closely with our trade partners (and Deloitte’s regional offices) throughout Asia (particularly Japan, Korea, China, and across South-East Asia) to set up trade and investment corridors, supporting financial investment decisions into Australian low carbon energy projects
  • Working with government to support initiatives, strategies and policies to catalyse the adoption of clean energy and development of new industries

We are looking for individuals who want to have an impact on future generations with the following attributes:

 

  • 6 to 15 years of relevant experience and exposure preferably in the energy, mining, transport, industrial or chemicals sectors working in a policy, strategy or commercial role focused on the energy and climate transition
  • Bachelor or masters degree in finance, economics, engineering, law or relevant field
  • Previous professional services experience or demonstrated consulting/advisory experience required
  • Excellent strategic thinker, able to understand complex issues and bring a structured problem solving approach
  • Experience managing projects and coordinating teams utilising complex data sets and quantitative techniques to develop innovative solutions for commercial problems
  • Ability to interpret and effectively communicate implications to clients at senior levels across the private and public sectors - utilising appropriate methods to present insights and findings
  • Passion for driving action in the transition and a highly inquisitive mindset, always looking for new solutions. Strong capability to communicate and share insights to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Preferred locations for this role are Perth and Brisbane, however other locations will be considered
