The Senior Project Manager (SPM) leads the successful delivery of complex projects from inception through construction, taking full accountability for achieving Deloitte’s objectives across time, cost, quality and stakeholder outcomes. The role provides strategic guidance to clients, Partners and project teams, ensuring robust governance, proactive risk management and seamless execution throughout the project lifecycle.
In addition to core project delivery, Senior Project Managers play a key role in front-end development management activities, shaping project strategy, guiding design and approvals, and influencing commercial outcomes.
About the team
The Infrastructure & Project Solutions team are focused on advising on some of the largest and most high-profile infrastructure projects and programs, as well as complex government services contracts. Our work spans the infrastructure lifecycle from policy and strategy development, to preparation of compelling complex business cases through to managing design and procurement, delivery phase contract administration to close transactions. We work across a range of sectors including residential, commercial office, transport, social infrastructure such as education, sports & recreation, as well as power and utilities infrastructure and precincts & urban renewal.
About the role
As a Senior Project Manager, you will:
- Lead the development and governance of the master program, ensuring clear direction, performance monitoring and accountability across all project stakeholders.
- Oversee high-quality project reporting, providing accurate, timely insights to client and executive teams.
- Drive overall project performance across time, cost and quality, proactively managing risks, issues and corrective actions.
- Establish and maintain project management processes and documentation, ensuring compliance with best-practice standards.
- Shape and validate the design brief with the client, ensuring strategic alignment and delivery feasibility.
- Provide senior oversight of design development, challenging consultants and ensuring buildability, budget compliance and design quality.
- Drive value management initiatives to optimise scope, cost and commercial outcomes.
- Oversee mock-ups or display suites, ensuring alignment with project and client requirements.
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary consultants, setting expectations, monitoring performance and resolving issues.
- Advise and support clients and specialist advisors, ensuring streamlined communication and alignment to project objectives.
- Represent the client in all major coordination forums, leading engagement with consultants, builders and suppliers.
- Champion clear, effective communication across design teams, authorities and delivery partners.
- Set and oversee the approvals strategy, ensuring timely lodgement, negotiation and resolution of authority requirements.
- Own project financial governance, including budget management, cost control, forecasting and reporting.
- Identify and manage commercial risks, ensuring the project maintains financial integrity.
- Lead commissioning and project close-out strategies, ensuring practical completion, defect resolution and comprehensive close-out reporting.
- Oversee variation and change management, ensuring accurate assessment, negotiation and integration into overall project budgets.
- Lead procurement and tender processes, developing strategy, evaluating submissions and recommending preferred contractors.
- Guide contract negotiation and execution, ensuring commercial clarity and compliance with client objectives.
- Finalise all contracts and consultant appointments post-approval, ensuring seamless mobilisation of delivery partners.
About your Experience
To succeed in this role you will need to have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., property, project management, construction, real estate or related fields),
- Significant industry experience in property, development or major project delivery, with a proven track record leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Experience in high rise projects including residential, commercial and mixed use
- Deep understanding of the full development and project delivery lifecycle, from design and approvals through to procurement, construction and completion.
- Strong capability in program management, project controls, financial oversight and risk management.
- Highly proficient with project management and digital collaboration tools, including MS Project and advanced Excel.
- Demonstrated alignment to Deloitte’s values, with a commitment to high standards, integrity and collaboration.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence and negotiate at senior levels.
- Confident, sound professional judgement, with the ability to provide clear recommendations and lead decision-making.
- Committed to continuous improvement and team development.
- Experienced in navigating complex stakeholders and high-pressure environments with professionalism and resilience.
