What will your typical day look like?


As an Associate within our Deloitte Legal team, you will provide practical advice to clients as they deal with their most complex taxation issues. Focusing mainly on tax issues as part of the dispute lifecycle you will be required to work closely with clients and barristers to develop detailed tax technical submissions, assist with and lead court processes and cross-border disputes with other regulators in various jurisdictions.

 

You will gain experience that sets you apart as you work with a variety of top-tier clients ranging from multinational corporations through to high net-worth individuals.  You will be exposed to a range of tasks including:

  • Preparing detailed technical submissions relating to complex tax technical areas of the law with a focus on integrity provisions
  • Understanding the tax administration provisions as they relate to assessments, objections, rulings and penalties and interest
  • Understanding cross-border international tax matters including mutual agreement procedures
  • Preparing evidence files and brief to counsel
  • Conducting research to support advice on a range of matters. 
  • managing tax audits, risk reviews and objections against assessments
  • pursuing alternative dispute resolution and negotiating settlements
  • Preparing for proceedings in the Administrative Review Tribunal, Federal or State Courts
  • Commercial drafting
  • Working with regulators such as the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and Treasury

 You are someone with:

  • A minimum of 3 to 6 years’ experience in tax (preferably with tax litigation / dispute resolution experience, although not a must);
  • A self-starter attitude with an ability to drive results and take initiative to identify areas of opportunity.
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, differing complexity engagements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with our clients and cultivate new ones.
  • Demonstrated ability in training, delegating to and supporting junior members of the team.
  • Love being part of a team and working collaboratively.  
  • Naturally curious and good at problem-solving 
  • Enthusiasm and a passion to learn, support, challenge and succeed.
