What will your typical day look like?  

At Deloitte, no two days are alike. Our day-to-day varies across client engagements and business development initiatives.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the partnership with growing our business and leading programs of work that will ultimately build and enhance the Operational Resilience, intelligence, and performance of our clients. Depending on the engagement, this may involve building complex solutions to improve our client’s operational intelligence, observability and resilience of their IT applications and platforms.

 

In addition to client delivery work, the successful candidate will be empowered to lead the growth of our practice by shaping offerings, proposals, assets, and client opportunities, as well as coaching and mentoring our team members.

 

About the Team

Deloitte’s Engineering Practice helps clients realise the potential of transformational capabilities to solve their most challenging issues. We improve their agility and resilience and identify opportunities to optimise their technology usage. We also accelerate our clients towards a technology-driven future, by implementing vendor solutions as well as Deloitte-developed software solutions and tools. 

Our Operations Engineering team is positioned at the forefront of technology and the department is fuelled by technologists passionate about the industry. We are proponents of Observability, Cloud & Automation technologies, driving innovative and world-leading solutions that underpin exceptional business outcomes.

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years of IT Operations experience or equivalent architectural/solutioning expertise with observability or application monitoring
  • Extensive and proven experience with understanding the benefits, as well as the design and implementation concepts for observability engineering, compliance (e.g. DORA, CPS230) and associated tools.
  • Extensive understanding and experience with the purpose, design, implementation and maintenance of Observability platforms and tools
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously.
  • An ability to apply critical thinking, solve complex problems and provide pragmatic solutions
    •    Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences
     
    •    Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and rapport with external and internal stakeholders 
    •    Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team 
    •    A collaborative mindset to deliver positive and high-quality outcomes for clients
    •    Experience and a desire to coach and mentor team members, and be a visible leader in our team
  • Strong understanding of the architectural landscape of IT, including different platforms, systems, processes and services to support the implementation of observability
  • Experience with leading design elaboration through workshops, conversation and document analysis to clearly and accurately identify the needs of observability for stakeholders
  • Have accurately captured design requirements from stakeholders into high level designs, which in turn are easily leveraged and consumed by team members to derive a quality end to end observability solutions

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, NewRelic, DataDog, AppDynamics, Prometheus, cloud native monitoring tools, etc.
  • Application instrumentation with common frameworks (Java, Spring Boot, Mulesoft, Node.js, iOS, Android apps).
  • Automation platforms (Ansible Automation Platform, AWS Lambda, Azure Function Apps).
  • Experience using OpenTelemetry.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Extensive experience in designing incident and alerting workflows, profiles and dashboards, and integrating observability tools into ITSM tools, such as ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, OpsGenie, etc
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration systems (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm).
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and architecture.
  • Strong understanding of database systems (SQL, NoSQL) and storage systems.
