Description:

Job Requisition ID: 41471

  • Flexible work arrangements - work in a way that suits you best
  • World-class learning and leadership programs
  • Salary packaging - to suit your personal and financial circumstances

As an Operate Software Engineer in the Infrastructure & Industrials team, within the Operate team for Optimal Reality, you maintain, support and improve the live instances of OR that clients use to solve their most pressing day-to-day challenges. You keep the platform stable, secure and performant in production — and you increasingly do it with AI in the loop, using agents and LLM-based tooling to automate operational toil and resolve issues faster. This is a client-facing, hands-on engineering role with 24/7 on-call responsibilities.

What will your typical day look like?

You will keep mission-critical systems running for high-profile clients, and help define how an Operate team uses AI to do it better — automating the repetitive work so you can focus on genuinely hard problems. You’ll work across a modern full-stack environment with a smart, passionate team that loves what it does.

You are a highly motivated engineer with:

  • Monitor and maintain the back-end of live, in-production Optimal Reality instances, keeping them stable and performant for clients operating around the clock
  • Work side by side with the OR product team to feed back key technical challenges and areas for improvement in the solution
  • Manage and track client support tickets through to resolution — diagnosing and fixing back-end defects and delivering enhancements
  • Build and use AI-assisted workflows to speed up operations — for example, agentic CVE triage and remediation, AI-assisted log analysis, and LLM-supported root-cause investigation, with human review on high-stakes changes
  • Develop and maintain automation, runbooks and tooling that reduce manual toil and improve reliability
  • Support the enablement team to ensure future client projects have a sound operations plan and structure designed in from the outset
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call coverage to keep client instances stable, including out of hours

About the team

Our Australian team draws on hands-on industry expertise and extensive experience from some of the world's largest operations and asset intensive projects. The team enables clients to set up, build and run projects with greater confidence in the results. We bring our clients this confidence through our focussed offerings, driving improved performance across transformation and operations through the application of digital technologies, business intelligence and analytics and support to project development, delivery, commissioning, operations and management.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.

You are a highly motivated engineer with:

  • Extensive experience in a client-facing technical support or production engineering role
  • Experience working on complex technology projects
  • Demonstrated experience supporting technical solutions, particularly AWS-based architecture
  • Demonstrated experience in Python and GraphQL
  • Demonstrated technical development experience, preferably in microservices-based systems
  • Familiarity with languages and tools including Julia, SQL, Kubernetes, Docker and Terraform
  • Hands-on experience with LLM-based tooling and agent patterns — prompt design, tool use, and building or using AI agents to automate engineering and operational work
  • A practical sense of where to trust automation and where human review is required, especially for security-sensitive or production-impacting changes
  • Advanced problem-solving and client delivery skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with security operations and vulnerability management, including CVE triage and remediation
  • Experience with time-series, telemetry or streaming data — IoT, sensor networks, SCADA or similar
  • Familiarity with Golang, React, JavaScript or DeckGL
  • Experience building MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers or tool integrations for LLM agents
  • Exposure to AI agent evaluation, red-teaming or adversarial prompt testing
