Energy Transition / Climate Change Consulting in Energy, Utilities and Mining

We are looking for a team player who is passionate about reducing the impact of climate change by enabling the orderly transition of energy to lower carbon sources. In our Deloitte Climate and Sustainability (DCS) team, we are looking for candidates who are just as passionate about their team’s development as they are about the energy, water and resources sectors and climate change. The right candidate will be able to clearly express their views and perspectives on the energy transition, policy settings, technologies, and related sustainability topics. They will also be comfortable in front of a diverse set of senior clients and stakeholders in energy, water, mining and other energy-use-intensive industries.

Example client engagements and work

You will be part of a newly formed team Deloitte Climate and Sustainability (DCS) delivering exciting and complex programs for our clients while helping to build our internal team and go to market approaches. Example work could include -

  • Developing and Implementing strategies to achieve net zero targets via operational improvement, investment/divestment of assets and leveraging new energy technologies
  • Developing new low carbon business models within traditional energy companies (including carbon/environmental products trading, low-carbon energy products retail businesses, nature-based solutions for verifiable carbon offsets, and energy storage)
  • Assessing regulatory frameworks and devising pragmatic ways to implement changes within large and complex energy and resource companies
  • Supporting clients to achieve their Net Zero strategy and target settings across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions
  • Supporting clients by reviewing and preparing their TCFD (or equivalent) financial disclosures
  • Support industry clients with a diverse range of ESG topics
  • In this newly created role in Australia DCS consulting team, you will be working at the heart of the energy transition where you will lead specific Client Account Plans and lead both the client development and project delivery efforts.
  • Interacting with client senior leadership during client development and project delivery activities
  • Leading key internal initiatives for new products/solutions related to Energy Transition
  • Leading thought leadership insights for your relevant topic/area of knowledge
  • Mentoring Junior staff members

We are looking for a talented Energy Transition and Climate professional to help Deloitte lead & deliver work to energy, utilities, and resource sector clients in Australia.

Here are some of the key requirements for the ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in commerce, Law, Engineering or Economics
  • Advanced post-grad preferred (i.e. MBA)
  • 12-15 years’ experience in utilities, mining or energy related businesses either in industry or as a consultant,
  • Solid experience as a consultant delivering client projects at some stage of your career
  • Extensive knowledge of the energy transition, utilities, renewables sectors, decarbonisation, energy policy and global energy issues.
  • Strong track record of leading business development and marketing activities
  • Successful track record of projects related to energy transition with focus on renewables, net zero pathways, energy policy or other areas relating to climate change and energy.
  • Market knowledge of the NEM, energy regulation and climate change policies
  • A deep understanding of the drivers of climate change, how they impact the energy transition and how these impact upon the operational, commercial and strategic options available to our clients managing the energy transition, and decarbonisation.
  • Awareness or experience in one or more of the following: Corporate Climate Risk & Sustainability, Carbon Accounting, Emissions Regulations, New Energies & Decarbonisation, utility-scale solar / wind, CCUS, offshore electrification, hydrogen
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and a track record of effective team working
  • Strong analytical skills, and ability to develop innovative business solutions based on effective processes and focused on business value outcomes
  • The ability to take ownership and deliver results in challenging, client-facing environments
  • Ability to work flexibly across different client types.
