About our Health, Safety, and Environment Team
Our highly diverse and multi-disciplinary team combines deep subject matter expertise, strategic thinking, leveraging data and technology to meet the diverse and fast-evolving needs of our clients. Through our services, we help our clients understand, engage with and act on their HSE risks and opportunities.


Our National specialist HSE Team is a key part of the Sustainability and Climate Change (S&CC) Practice within our Risk Advisory Service Line. We help our clients meet their HSE responsibilities, protect people and profits, and create sustainable, long-term improvements in environment, health, safety, mental health, and wellbeing performance.


Our S&CC Practice’s experience and expertise spans Environmental, Social and Governance (or “ESG”) Strategy, Impact Measurement, Climate Risk and Strategy, Work Health and Safety, Environment, Crisis Management and Resilience, Risk Culture, Human Rights , Modern Slavery and Ethics, across a range of assurance and advisory client engagements


What will your typical day look like?
Based in our Melbourne office with some infrequent travel interstate, this full-time HSE Director position (reporting to the National HSE Partner) offers the opportunity to locally lead, manage and grow a high-performance HSE team, business development, relationship management, engagements working across a variety of blue-chip, high-profile clients and consulting assignments providing HSE services including:


We offer a broad range of HSE services including (but not limited to):

  • Strategy development, planning and implementation
  • Advice/consulting 
  • Risk assurance 
  • Assessments, inspections, and internal audits
  • Analytics
  • Risk profiling and benchmarking
  • Safety culture leadership and change 
  • People engagement programs


Client Leadership:

  • Leading a growing local team to deliver a variety of HSE consulting engagements, including, but not limited to strategy, enterprise safety culture transformation, HSE management system design and implementation, HSE risk assessments and audit programs
  • Leading & facilitating client meetings, drive discussions with senior executives/leadership teams
  • Overseeing the development of high-quality and engaging written deliverables and client presentations
  • Understanding our client's industry and recognize key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical and industry developments
  • Developing and maintaining high quality client relationships 


You will also enjoy collaborating with your Deloitte colleagues across many service lines such as Risk Analytics building relationships and identify opportunities for our clients to benefit from our insights.

If you are an accomplished and versatile senior HSE specialist (Director) who is a confident leader with a curious mind and the ability to solve complex client issues, this role is for you.


As an experienced HSE professional you will possess:

  • A university degree (or higher) qualifications in an HSE related subject (e.g. occupational health and safety, occupational hygiene, environmental science/management and health)
  • 10-12 year’s consulting, project management or industry experience with a focus on HSE risks and opportunities and/or operational safety ideally across a range of industries including some mining experience
  • Experience covering strategy evaluation and development, management system design and implementation, process improvement and reporting
  • Experience in using or implementing IT platforms, preferably in the area of HSE/EHS, such as SAP, Enablon would be advantageous
  • A firm grasp of relevant HSE legislation and standards as well as better practice tools/models
  • Demonstrable experience in relationship management, business development, and leading a high-performance team 
  • HSE risk management, management system design and assurance experience
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, relationship and professional report writing skills 
  • Australian or minimum dual citizenship
  • Current driver’s licence
