Applied AI Specialists are the bridge between client problems and delivered solutions. Your primary working method is skill composition: you use the OR AI skill library to prototype, test, and deliver client solutions — rapidly combining pre-built skills, configuring them against client data, and authoring new domain-specific skills where the library has gaps. You are not an account manager or a slide-maker — you are on the tools. You run discovery sessions, compose skill workflows to validate hypotheses the same day, write requirements that engineers can act on, and stay accountable through to delivery. You are the person who makes an engagement cohere, and the skill library is how you make it happen fast.
What will your typical day look like?
You will work on problems that most practitioners never get near — live operational decision-making in environments where the stakes are high and the data is hard. You will prototype and deliver AI solutions, moving from client discovery to working demonstration faster than traditional delivery approaches allow. The skills you author and the field insights you bring back will shape the OR skill library — making the whole team more capable. This is a role where your judgment, domain knowledge, and technical hands-on ability all matter, and where you will see the direct impact of what you build.
- Lead client discovery — structured sessions to surface operational workflows, decision-making pain points, and data availability, and translate these into clear problem statements
- Compose AI skills from the OR skill library to prototype solutions rapidly — validating a concept against client data before a full build is ever scoped
- Author domain-specific AI skill files from field knowledge, extending the shared library with operational patterns captured on engagements
- Evaluate skill performance on client data: identify failure modes, tune system prompts and configurations, and define acceptance criteria with the client
- Write requirements that engineers can act on: user stories, acceptance criteria, data contracts, integration specifications
- Manage client relationships through the delivery lifecycle — from initial scoping through go-live — as the primary point of accountability
- Collaborate closely with Applied AI Engineers to hand off skill-based prototypes for production hardening, and stay close enough to delivery to course-correct in real time
- Feed field insights back into the skill library and OR delivery methodology — what you learn on an engagement should make the next one faster
About the team
Our Australian team draws on hands-on industry expertise and extensive experience from some of the world's largest operations and asset intensive projects. The team enables clients to set up, build and run projects with greater confidence in the results. We bring our clients this confidence through our focussed offerings, driving improved performance across transformation and operations through the application of digital technologies, business intelligence and analytics and support to project development, delivery, commissioning, operations and management.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you.
- Background in technical consulting, solutions engineering, or product management on complex B2B engagements
- Hands-on prototyping ability with LLM-based tooling, configure tool use, and evaluate output quality; you build working things, not just describe them
- Sufficient technical depth to read and write against an API, understand data schemas, and have an informed conversation with a client's engineering team
- Strong requirements practice: you can turn ambiguous operational problems into precise, buildable specifications
- Clear, confident communicator — equally effective in an ops centre walkthrough, a requirements workshop, and an executive status briefing
- Operates with delivery ownership: you stay accountable until the thing works in the client's hands, not until your slides are done
Additional expectations at Senior level:
- Demonstrated track record of leading client engagements end-to-end, with measurable outcome
- Experience working in or alongside regulated sectors: defence, critical infrastructure, energy, utilities, or transport
- Comfortable managing competing priorities across multiple simultaneous engagement
- Able to scope and estimate skill-based delivery work: which problems compress with skills, where custom engineering is unavoidable, and what that implies for time and cost
Additional expectations at Lead level:
- Deep domain expertise in at least one of OR's core sectors — you bring credibility that opens doors
- Experience managing client portfolios and growing accounts over time
- Comfortable contributing to commercial structures, pricing, and contract negotiations
- Has built delivery methodology or reusable assets — skill libraries, playbooks, evaluation frameworks — that improved outcomes across multiple engagements
Nice to Have (any level)
- Direct experience in defence, intelligence, emergency management, energy, or transport operations
- Security clearance or eligibility
- Familiarity with digital twin, simulation, or AI/ML system concepts
- Experience authoring MCP servers, AI skill files, or structured AI agent workflows
- Background in data engineering, GIS, or operational systems integration
- Exposure to prompt evaluation frameworks or red-teaming LLM outputs
