This is your chance to help shape how Deloitte and our clients use data, automation and AI to transform tax. As a Tax Data Automation Analyst in our Tax Transformation & Technology team, you will work with Tax specialists and engineers to turn complex tax logic, client data and expected outcomes into reliable, traceable and testable solutions. 

 

What will your typical day look like?  

 

You will work with tax specialists and engineers to understand how tax decisions should be applied to client data, then translate those requirements into executable rules, transformations and automated tests. 

 

Your work may include:

  • Working with Tax specialists to clarify requirements, exceptions and expected outcomes. 
  • Building and maintaining tax calculation, classification and validation rules using Python, SQL and established engineering patterns. 
  • Building data workflows, schemas, mappings and client configurations for ERP and finance data. 
  • Implementing automated data-quality, anomaly, reconciliation and regression controls using reference datasets, golden datasets and output comparisons. 
  • Diagnosing and resolving production issues across live Tax modules during peak delivery periods. 
  • Documenting rules, schemas, transformations and technical decisions for people and AI-assisted tools. 
  • Improving the Tax platform and rules-engine framework through reusable capabilities, templates and tooling. 
  • Contributing to Python tools, data services and evaluation harnesses for AI-assisted and agentic Tax workflows.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.  

 

  • Around 1-2 years’ experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or data automation 
  • Strong Python and SQL for ELT and rules-based processing 
  • Experience with Polars, Pandas, DuckDB, or similar data-processing tools 
  • Knowledge of relational data, data quality and ETL/ELT patterns 
  • Experience validating and reconciling data using reference datasets, output comparisons or automated tests 
  • Ability to build data-quality and anomaly controls and troubleshoot production issues 
  • Ability to workshop requirements with Tax SMEs and translate them into testable rules 
  • Strong logical reasoning across calculations, classifications, precedence and exceptions 
  • Familiarity with Git, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD and technical documentation 
  • Clear communication, curiosity and a self-directed approach to learning 
  • Exposure to the following would be advantageous: 
    • Tax, accounting, ERP or other finance data 
    • Rules engines, decision tables or configuration-driven processing 
    • Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Airflow or other cloud, container and orchestration technologies 
    • Statistical anomaly detection or advanced data profiling techniques
    • AI-assisted engineering tools and exposure to LLM APIs, tool calling, evaluation harnesses or agentic Tax workflows
  • You do not need to arrive as a Tax or AI specialist. We are looking for strong Python and SQL foundations, careful reasoning and a willingness to learn.
