Our Canberra Technology Consulting team is growing, and we are looking for a Junior Test Manager to join us on this exciting journey. About the role
As a Test Manager, you will be responsible for defining and executing the test strategy, creating detailed test plans, and managing estimations, timelines, and resource allocation. You will ensure comprehensive test coverage and high-quality standards, while overseeing defect management and risk mitigation throughout the testing process. You will lead and manage the testing team, providing guidance and support as needed. Additionally, you will be responsible for daily reporting, including Test Status Reports (TSR), tracking progress, and escalating blockers and risks to senior management and clients, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
Role Responsibilities:
- Define and lead the creation of test strategies, plans, and approaches, ensuring they are aligned with project goals and client requirements.
- Manage and motivate a medium-sized team of testers, including automation testers, ensuring they meet their targets and deliver high-quality work.
- Own the coverage and quality of test cases across different testing phases (e.g., functional, integration, regression, performance).
- Oversee the defect management process, ensuring defects are logged, tracked, and resolved, and that retesting is completed to acceptance by system owners.
- Manage and present test artifacts, reports, and TSRs to clients for approval and sign-off. Communicate progress, risks, and issues effectively to the project leadership in a timely manner.
- Identify and escalate risks, issues, and dependencies, ensuring they are communicated to project leadership in a timely manner.
- Define the test environment requirements and test data strategy to ensure that the team has the necessary resources to execute tests effectively.
- Define and implement testing processes for the team to follow, ensuring consistency, best practices, and efficiency throughout the project.
- Manage and enforce quality stage gates between testing phases, ensuring that quality standards are met before moving on to the next phase.
About you
You will be passionate about ensuring the quality of software systems and have a strong interest in leadership and team development. You should be proactive in managing testing activities and ensuring that project objectives are met. You will have a solid understanding of testing methodologies, risk management, and communication with both internal teams and clients.
You will have the following experience:
- Experience leading a medium-sized team of testers, including automation testers.
- Strong understanding of test strategy and planning, with the ability to define comprehensive test approaches for a variety of testing phases.
- Familiarity with test case design, test coverage, and ensuring quality across different types of testing.
- Solid understanding of defect management, from logging and tracking defects to ensuring resolution and retesting.
- Experience preparing and presenting test reports and artifacts (e.g. Test Plans and TSRs) to clients for sign-off.
- Ability to identify and escalate risks, issues, and dependencies to project leadership, ensuring that they are resolved in a timely manner.
- Experience in defining and managing test environments, including infrastructure and test data strategy.
- Proficiency in managing stage gates and ensuring smooth transitions between testing phases.
- Able to grasp the full scope of a solution and the ability to apply critical thinking
- Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies and the ability to work across both frameworks.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients and internal stakeholders at all levels.
