About the team
Deloitte’s Infrastructure & Real Estate team is a national team of over 200 diverse infrastructure and property professionals. We are a client issues led business, who advise and deliver on some of the largest and most high-profile infrastructure projects and programs, as well as complex government services contracts.
Our team comprises of Partners and Directors who are highly regarded in their areas of expertise. Our team’s work spans the entire infrastructure lifecycle, including:
- Policy development
- Strategy development including master/precinct and portfolio planning
- Business case preparation
- Procurement process design and execution
- Commercial advisory and negotiations
- Construction project management and contract administration
- Project and program management
- Transaction advisory
- Physical infrastructure asset advisory
And we work across a range of public and private sectors, such as:
- Defence, Federal & ACT Government
- Public transport
- Health and Human services
- Justice and Security
- Education
- Sports and Recreation
- Ports and economic infrastructure
- Precincts and urban renewal
- Residential, commercial and industrial
What will your typical day look like?
Expect to work closely with our clients, helping to address ‘front-page’ and ‘big-ticket’ issues. On a day-to-day basis you might find yourself:
- collaborating with Government and its stakeholders to inform investments in the Government’s next generation of physical infrastructure.
- undertaking commercial and financial analysis, designing commercial frameworks such as performance and payment arrangements, and developing and delivering procurement strategies to optimise competitive processes.
- analysing an infrastructure network’s performance and future requirements using the latest tools and technologies to identify opportunities and risk.
- undertaking analysis to consider where the next rail line should go, working with government and community stakeholders, considering the social, economic and environmental impact of different options to determine an optimal outcome.
- working with a team of architects, engineers, lawyers and people across multiple areas of government to run large-scale government tender processes and negotiate optimised public outcomes and value for money from complex service contracts.
- developing and delivering fit for purpose project execution strategies relating to infrastructure and property planning, delivery and transactions.
- delivering project management, contract administration and superintendency services of the latest commercial buildings in Canberra.
- playing key functional roles in Program Management Offices (PMOs) of major Defence infrastructure programs.
- travelling interstate and even overseas to support federal government client projects and programs.

We are looking for a diverse range of skill sets and experiences to add to our Canberra team. Therefore, we are open to a range of infrastructure and property professionals and backgrounds.
However, we are looking for the following must haves:
- An interest in public sector and the economic, financial and social drivers of government investment, decision-making and policy.
- A strong desire to make an impact that matters through the work that you do.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, including the ability to prepare a range of different documents, and write in different styles for different purposes and audiences.
- A positive, collaborative and problem-solving approach.
- A desire to learn and grow.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- A relevant tertiary qualification or similarly aligned to the job expectations.
- An Australian Government Security Clearance, or the ability to apply for and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
You may also have the following skills / experiences, which would be valuable to the role:
- Experience in public sector procurement and/or delivery of infrastructure and associated services, financial and/or economic modelling, contract design and development, consulting and the provision of professional services.
- Strong quantitative analysis skills including financial and/or economic analysis.
- Project management/contract administration experience (Defence, Government or private sector)
- An engineering, infrastructure trade or real estate background.
- Experience working in the Australian Defence Force and we strongly encourage reservists and veterans apply.
- An understanding of the workings of the Australian and/or Australian Capital Territory Government.
