Defence Capability Manager (NV1)

What will your typical day look like?  

 

In this role, you will be engaging directly with Defence leaders to deliver on some of Defence’s most pressing priorities.

 

Your day-to-day activities will include:

 

  • Client Engagement: Collaborate with Defence clients to identify challenges and collaboratively develop solutions.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate multiple project workstreams, ensuring focus on outcomes and impact. You will also mentor and guide junior team members to foster their growth and development.
  • High-Performance Collaboration: Work within and lead a high-performing team committed to excellence, supporting clients to improve operational performance.
  • Inspiring Defence and National Security Projects: Contribute to transformative and inspiring programs that realise the outcomes the National Defence Strategy and Defence Strategic Review.
  • Use Deloitte’s Expertise: Leverage Deloitte’s unique capabilities in structured problem-solving, design thinking, digital innovation, data analytics, and access to global consulting networks.
  • Professional Development: Participate in extensive capability developement-focused training, both structured and on-the-job. You will also develop and deliver training to junior team members.
  • Accountability, Independence and Project Delivery: Take ownership of your projects, driving them from initiation to completion, ensuring that client objectives are met, and that project outcomes align with strategic goals.

 

About the team   


Our team works with Defence’s leaders to deliver critical National Security outcomes for Australia.  We pride ourselves on being trusted partners to Defence, working collaboratively with both the APS and the ADF to deliver capability results across all groups and services. Our team – within Deloitte’s Operations, Industry & Domain Solutions practice - work within the One Defence Capability System the help Defence solve their largest and most complex challenges.

 

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.  

 

You are someone with:

 

Essential:

  • Knowledge of the Defence or National Security Environment: Proven experience working within or consulting into the National Security Community or Australian Department of Defence (ADF or APS).
  • Security Clearance: A current AGSVA security clearance of minimum NV1 is required.
  • Location: Based in Canberra or willing to relocate to Canberra to take up the role.

Desirable:

  • Experience in leading teams to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Experienced in project management or analysis within the One Defence Capability System.
  • Experience in developing procurement advice for Commonwealth Agencies.
  • Experience in developing Defence or National Security policy and governance arrangements.
  • Prior experience in consulting, particularly in a Defence context.
  • Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to build strong relationships with a range of clients.
  • Analytical Expertise and an ability to synthesise results into digestible outputs (e.g. reports).
  • Curiosity to learn and proactivity to bring forward ideas.
