Consultant/Senior Consultant | Infrastructure Advisory | Strategy & Commercial

Date:  2 Jul 2026
Location:

Canberra, ACT, AU

Department:  Strategy, Risk & Transactions
Description:

Job Requisition ID: 39628

  • Shape nation-defining infrastructure and government policy from the earliest, most influential stage of the project lifecycle.
  • Purposeful client work with real community impact
  • Mentoring, coaching and leadership programs to help you make an impact that matters

Join our Canberra-based Strategy & Commercial team as a Consultant or Senior Consultant and help influence the major policies, investments and services that shape the lives of everyday Australians.

What will your typical day look like?
You'll work alongside government clients on the "front-page" and "big-ticket" issues that define Australia's future - developing independent reviews, options analysis, business cases and strategy for complex policies, projects and programs. Depending on your level, you'll contribute to or take ownership of commercial and financial analysis, designing commercial frameworks, optimising procurement strategies, and supporting large-scale government tender processes to deliver value for money.

The impact is tangible. From social and economic development to service delivery, the advice you shape helps decision-makers commit to nation-defining projects and life-changing services. You'll also play key functional roles in Program Management Offices for major Defence infrastructure programs, where your analysis directly informs how public investment is planned and delivered.

Variety is built into the role. One week you might be analysing an infrastructure network's performance using the latest tools and technologies to identify opportunities and risk; the next, you're designing a procurement process or working through commercial negotiations. As a Senior Consultant, you'll also have the chance to lead workstreams and coach junior team members. Whatever your level, you'll collaborate closely with government stakeholders and industry leaders who are genuinely invested in your growth.

About the team
Deloitte's Strategy & Commercial team works on some of the country's most high-profile infrastructure and government service projects. We focus on the early stages of the capital project and policy lifecycle - policy and strategy development, strategic options analysis, complex program planning, business case preparation, procurement process design and execution, commercial advisory, negotiations and transaction advisory. We primarily partner with public sector clients across Defence, Federal and ACT Government, public transport, justice and security, education, sports and recreation, ports and economic infrastructure, precincts and urban renewal, and health and human services. It's a collaborative environment where you'll learn from people who are as passionate about your development as they are about the work.

Enough about us, let's talk about you
You may have all or some of the following skills/experiences:

  • A passion for public sector work and a strong understanding of government policy and investment drivers
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to tailor compelling messages for different audiences
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including financial and economic analysis
  • A positive, collaborative mindset with a genuine drive to learn and grow (and, for Senior Consultants, to help others grow too)
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience (engineering, science, commerce, infrastructure or real estate backgrounds are all welcome)
  • An Australian Government Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain one
  • Experience in public sector strategy, procurement, infrastructure delivery, business cases, contract design or consulting (nice to have)
  • Project management or contract administration experience across Defence, Government or the private sector - reservists and veterans are encouraged to apply (nice to have)
