In the business landscape, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) serve as a vital strategy for driving growth and maximising long-term shareholder value by aligning with an organization's overarching objectives. Each facet of M&A has its own unique challenge, and it often takes a diverse team to get the best results on a deal. Deloitte’s M&A business is one of the largest in Australia, advising top tier clients on complex acquisition, merger, divestment and capital market activities. Our team works across a range of sectors including consumer business, financial services, infrastructure, technology, healthcare and real estate.

Technology is key to all M&A transactions and is often the largest source of cost, complexity and effort in separating or integrating organisations. Our Technology M&A team advise and support clients across a wide range of industries in navigating all facets of the M&A lifecycle (transaction/ deal strategy, pre-deal due diligence, as well as integration/separation planning and execution) from a Technology perspective. We help our clients to identify, architect and quantify technology considerations, values and risks during acquisition, integration or separation processes. We also support our clients throughout the end-to-end M&A process from due diligence through to separation or integration.

What will your typical day look like?

As a Senior Consultant, you will work across the M&A lifecycle, leading key workstreams, delivering high-quality client outcomes and supporting the growth of our practice. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development of high-quality client deliverables, including technology strategies, technology due diligence reports, technology blueprints, integration or separation plans, cost models and business cases;
  • Managing workstreams on complex engagements to identify, design and deliver business and technology solutions in an M&A context;
  • Taking ownership of deliverables and helping teams navigate ambiguity in fast-paced client environments;
  • Bringing informed perspectives on technology, vendors and the industries in which our clients operate, and translating these into practical recommendations for clients;
  • Building trusted relationships with client stakeholders and working effectively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated outcomes;
  • Supporting proposals and other business development activity for future engagements, including contributing to points of view, proposals and client discussions;
  • Coaching junior team members and contributing to a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture; and
  • Contributing to practice development initiatives, including capability building, knowledge sharing and internal team activities.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you.

You will ideally bring:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in technology strategy, integration, separation or due diligence in an M&A environment;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas clearly and confidently to technical and non-technical audiences;

  • Experience supporting communications, culture and change management initiatives;
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take ownership of workstreams effectively;
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, with experience working directly with client stakeholders;
  • Experience leading small teams or streams of work and supporting the development of junior team members;
  • The ability to build consensus and support change in complex, fast-moving environments;
  • Experience applying relevant methodologies, frameworks, standards and tools;
  • An understanding of the technology challenges facing clients across industries and the ability to translate these into practical insights; and
